The Shard’s Spectacular Arrival
July 6, 2012
Last night the newest part of the London skyline was officially revealed to the world in a breathtaking ceremony.
As the clock struck a quarter past ten the whole building was lit up by a selection of 12 lasers and 30 search lights beamed across the London skyline from a variety of other skyscrapers and landmarks.
It made for truly spectacular viewing
Situated on the River Thames at Southwark this stunning and iconic building, the tallest within the EU, has been slowly creeping ever upwards and the finished structure stands at just over 1,000ft! It truly has become the focal point for the London skyline and represents the draw that the Capital has for investors and businesses.
During the ceremony the building was fully illuminated and an accompaniment of classical music got the watching crowd’s pulses racing. Thousands of people either stayed late or travelled into London to witness the show which lasted for more than an hour. The gathered crowds (including Young London Property Manager, Barry Daly) were not left disappointed by the show as it lived up to its hype and billing.
The Shard’s unusual tapered design and glass panelling have already made it one of London’s most recognisable landmarks and last night it stood out even more. But now that it is officially opened this mixed-use 95-storey building will have to get down to the business of filling up all the empty space it houses. The building has spaces allotted for offices and private residences which sit alongside the five-star Shangri-La hotel and spa, restaurants.
The Shard will also be host the capital’s highest viewing gallery, The View from the Shard, which is scheduled to open on February 1, 2013, with advance tickets costing £24.95 per adult and £18.95 for children. Register online at: www.theviewfromtheshard.com.
