Why Live In…. The Water Gardens?
July 11, 2012
As Young London manages a significant number of properties in the Water Gardens I thought it would be appropriate to create a small guide to show off a few things that the surrounding area has to offer.
Choosing where to live is a big decision and so often it’s not just what the property offers but also what the local area has going for it that attracts people to living there.
This guide should help you to decide if the area around The Water Gardens might just be the place for you!
The Water Gardens is located a short distance from the river Thames within the Rotherhithe area in SE16.
With the recent re-opening of the Canada Water station the area is now well connected to the rest of London with Canary Wharf just one stop away, Westminster less than 10 minutes and Bond Street around 15 minutes away.
Much of the area around The Water Gardens has gone through a phase of development, with the opening of a new library, new restaurants, the expansion of outdoor leisure facilities and permission has been given for extension of the retail area. The area has become a haven for those who are looking for a short hop to work and as such the feel of the area is changing to reflect this new demographic.
Another highlight of the area is that it’s home to the gorgeous Southwark Park and the tranquil Canada Water lake, both places that are great for those rare days when the sun is shining.
Food & Drink:
A short walk from the development is the waterside watering hole The Moby Dick pub, spread across two floors, this pub provides its patrons with an excellent range of beers, wines and home-cooked food. A few scant minutes away from The Water Gardens is the delectable Yellow House bar and kitchen which offers a stunning range of main meals and deserts as well as being home to a local jazz night, wine tasting and a variety of other events.
There is no lack of entertainment to be found in the local area. My highlights would include the always fun Hollywood Bowl, conveniently located a short distance away, perfect for all aspiring pin kings. With the summer blockbusters still rolling out having an Odeon cinema only a brisk walk away is never a bad thing. Don’t think I have forgotten about those of you who, like myself, prefer something a bit more relaxing, like reading a rippingly good book. Thankfully it is a quick journey to the newly built Canada Water library.
The Water Gardens is also only a short distance from the Surrey Quays shopping centre (which has a River Island, WHSmith, Boots, Burtons and more) meaning that all you shopaholics can get your shopping fix! Within the Canada Water area there is also a 24 Hour superstore for all your late night needs!
Canada Water has something for everyone whether you’re looking to move here with your family or if you’re looking to live close to Canary Wharf. It’s definitely an area worth taking a closer look at.
